OPTILINK HISTORY

Optilink’s story started in 2006, following the implementation of new projects by national telecommunications providers. At the time, the current Optilink partners, who are experts in electronic engineering, identified a gap in the market of assembled optical components. Back then, Portuguese companies had no other option than to import all types of optical cables, as there was no domestic production. Sometimes, this was a problem, either due to high costs or to long turnaround times. In response to this market need, and supported by research, training and market studies involving direct contact with potential customers, Optilink project emerged.
Optilink, Lda. was founded in 19th February 2007, having as its main business activity the assembly of optical components. Later on, in September 2013, Optilink expanded its scope of business to include design, construction and maintenance of telecommunications networks. Since then, it has grown steadily:

Premises:
Optilink started its activity in a 60 m2 leased commercial space in Pombal. Two years later, it acquired its own premises with 600 m2 in Formiga Industrial Park, which have already been expanded to 900 m2.

Equipments:
The initial investment included the purchase of technical workbenches and equipment for assembling, testing and inspection of connectors and fiber optical cables, namely connectorization, polishing and microscopes.
Over the years, Optilink has not only increased the amount of equipment described above, but has also acquired new equipment: lab equipment MAP 200, fiber laser marking system, testing platforms, OTDRs and interferometers.

Customers:
From 2007 until early 2008, Optilink concentrated its production in pigtails and patch cords manufacturing for the company Telcabo. After this period, its demonstrated responsiveness, alongside with the quality of its products, potentiated the establishment of new partnerships. As of today, its client portfolio includes, among others: Telcabo, Arestel, Novabase IMS, PHBP Eletrónica, PT Inovação, PT Comunicações, PDT — Projetos de Telecomunicações, Ampernor, Eurico Ferreira, R&M Portugal and TEKA.

Human Resources:
Optilink started out with three people, and today it is a company of about fifty employees.
